St. Pete Beach - From “TripAdvisor.com”

St. Pete Beach (SPB) is a wonderful mix of fun things to do for people of all ages as well as families.  Beyond the gorgeous wide white sand beaches that you can freely walk for miles (all Resortbeaches are open to the public), SPB also has many really good (and a few great) restaurants — again something for everyone.  Many things are within walking distance and there is a beach trolley but having a car is recommended.

To do: Besides baking on the beach or hanging out at the pool, there is an endless list of things to do.

Spend the day at Ft. Desoto Park.  It  is only a few miles away but is a step back in time to "Old Florida"  Beyond the scrub pines, palmetto bushes and palm trees is one of America's top 10  best beaches.  The Park encompasses 900 acres, consists of five pristine islands, and offers superb amenities as well as, hiking, biking, swimming, roller blading, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, or camping.  The park also offers tours to nearby Egmont Key and, of course, the fort.  From the park you can see the Sunshine Skyway bridge which spans Tampa Bay south to Bradenton. It is worth a drive across the bridge (toll $1.00) just for the view.  While you are over there, visit Ellenton outlet mall for great buys on designer clothes and more.

Visit John's Pass Village.  John's Pass has several good restaurants and all of the souvenir shops you can handle.  Dockside Dave's  was featured in Southern Living for the Grouper sandwiches and Sculley's is terrific. You can also schedule a boat ride or fishing trip while you are there.

Visit the Pier in St. Petersburg on Tampa Bay.  While you are there plan to lunch at the Columbia Restaurant.  Later go for Happy Hour at Cha cha Coconuts and watch the sailboats on the bay or walk over to the marina and charter one for yourself.  Then walk over to Baywalk and take in a movie.

No matter what you choose to do, remember you are in the tropics, so wear your sunscreen. Even we natives are fanatic about it.
