GuestShare

The CharityChannel GuestShare system provides CharityChannel colleagues with a ready means to share documents. The most common scenario for sharing a document arises during a discussion on a discussion forum, where discussion of documents often arises. The GuestShare system no longer presents documents by category. Instead, we provide a search function, which lets you search for documents according to your interest and needs.

Note: GuestShare was re-launched as part of the re-launch of the new CharityChannel web site in March, 2008. Initially, the number of documents will be modest. Over time, though, it will grow into a considerable repository of documents.

How to Submit a Document: If you have a document to share, please click "Contribute a Document" above.

by Cheryl Kester

This zipped file includes sample professional services agreements for flat fee for private foundations, flat fee for federal grants, and retainer agreements.  These are based on sample contracts that some generous soul posted to GuestShare years ago, so my thanks to those early "sharers."

Of course, you should have an attorney in your jurisdiction review any document you decide to being using in your own practice. I am happy to answer questions about these documents.

Generic Agreement/Contract

Friday, March 20, 2009

by Chuck Howard

A generic Agreement/Contract serves as a base for creating different Agreements with different agencies.  The variations in specific duties, institutional names, etc. can be changed according to the specific client.  Responsibilities of consultant and agency are defined.  Covered also are topics on confidentiality, survival of certain parts of the Agreement, types of services to be provided, termination, property rights, and other pertinent topics.

endowment report sample (personalized)

Monday, February 16, 2009

by Kathy Alexander

Here is a sample of Illinois State University's FY08 endowment report, including a survey. The reports were printed on a Heidelberg press using variable data from our Agilon ONE database to personalize the reports. For example, the photo used on the front varied by the college in which the endowed fund resides, the information on how the funds may be used varied by the type of fund (e.g. scholarship vs. facilities vs. endowed chair) , the endowment summary and financial data were provided for the specific fund, and the list of recipients for a fund was printed only when appropriate. We received a 33% response rate to the survey (we included a BRE), and received about a dozen checks, including one for $10,000, even though we did not ask for additional contributions.

Endowment Report Form

Sunday, February 15, 2009

by Rainy Stephenson

Here is Oakland University's annual report form layout.  Because it is a merge document, you’ll have to click yes to (run SQL command) to open.  Although the financial data merges well, each report is customized; i.e., only a few endowments have more than one spending fund and not all are scholarship oriented.  All reports are sent with a cover letter.

We will be sending an interim report that will probably include at least one new data field--historic dollar value.  When it is finalized, I’ll share it with the group.

What Builds Trust Between Professional Donor Educators?

An Appreciative Inquiry & Framework for Exploration

Why Ask The Question: In this time of economic turmoil, the new generation of donor educators recognize that it is essential to build trust with their peers, financial advisors, fundraisers and the client/donor. With that trust, comes the promise of supporting giving, building collaborations, sustaining practices and growing the field. Not building trust relegates us to the same negative consequences facing financial institutions and government.
